TORPEDO, BANGALORE, M1A1

Two sections of a bangalore torpedo our sergeant made. The sections are made from automobile tail pipe and the connectors are original. Still missing is the nose cone.

Torpedo, Bangalore, M1A1, consists of a group of 10 loading assemblies (steel tubes filled with high explosive), which are used singly or in a series with nose sleeve and connecting sleeves for blasting a path through barbed wire entanglements or other obstructions. The loading assemblies (tubes) are 5 feet in length and 2-1/8 inches in diameter, grooved, and capped at each end. The explosive in the tube is amatol, with about 4 inches of TNT at each end. each end of the loading assembly (tube) contains a threaded cap well to accommodate any "issue" firing device with a blasting cap crimped thereto.
